Role description for REinspired Team Leader

Main purpose

The person appointed will have experience of working with children and being part of a church community. They will liaise with one or more school and co-ordinate a team of volunteers from local churches in order to deliver sessions on aspects of Christianity to pupils.

Key responsibilities and tasks
In relation to managing the REinspired team(s):

  • Maintain good working relationships with team volunteers.
  • Inform team volunteers when and where the sessions are taking place and what they will be asked to do. Ensuring that sessions plans, and notes are emailed out ahead of time.
  • Ensure that the necessary materials, equipment, and facilities are available.
  • Spend time before the session preparing the team and praying together.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the session.
  • Conduct a debrief with the team after the session.
  • Take a lead in recruiting new team members.
  • Ensure that all volunteers are DBS checked.
  • Spend time building a relationship with each team member.
  • Be computer literate.

In relation to the assigned schools:

  • Meet with the RE coordinators on a regular basis to plan the dates and topics for the sessions.
  • Develop the session structure and content according to the specific requirements of the locally agreed RE syllabus and the school curriculum and in consideration of the wider requirements of the project.
  • Liaise with class teachers before the session and seek feedback after the session.
  • Be proactive in suggesting new topics for sessions and new opportunities to serve the schools.
  • Take a general interest in the life and well-being of the schools.

In relation to the project:

  • Attend regular meetings with management team.
  • Contribute to the development of new RE sessions if required.
  • Contribute to the planning of training events for volunteers with REinspired.
  • Work with the finance officers in accounting for expenses and costs incurred in the delivery of the sessions.

Lines of accountability

The line manager for this role will be the Project Director or other person appointed by the Trustees. Through their line manager the person appointed will be accountable to their employers or management group.

Essential

  • The ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • Experience of working with children.
  • Knowledge of Christianity and of church life.
  • Be in sympathy with the aims and objects of REinspired.
  • Self-motivation.
  • To take initiatives, work to scheduled deadlines but without direct supervision.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and on your own.
  • A suitable working environment from which to work at home, including computer, printer, internet access and email facilities, and the ability to use them.
  • The ability to work flexibly.
